The Office of the Vice President for Economic Development and Innovation (VPEDI) advances the economic development mission of the University of Illinois System by supporting research and innovation activities that elevate ideas into sustainable businesses and global solutions.

A global leader in research and discovery, the University of Illinois provides value and impact across the state, is a major driver of economic growth, and is a pipeline of talent for workforce development. The System’s three distinct universities in Urbana-Champaign, Chicago, and Springfield serve the people of Illinois through a shared commitment to our missions of excellence in teaching, research, public service, and economic development. VPEDI brings together research and commercialization efforts by providing a place, process, and platform for innovation and economic development.

The Offices of Technology Management (OTMs), IllinoisVENTURES, EnterpriseWorks, and the Research Park are the units that report to VPEDI. These units execute the functions of our innovation pipeline and support the System’s economic development mission by bringing research, technology commercialization, and entrepreneurial education to move ideas and innovation from the laboratory to the marketplace.
