Joey Mak

As the Director of Economic Development & Innovation, Joey works with the private sector and communities to design and implement initiatives that foster economic growth in Illinois.

Previously, Joey was the Acting Director of Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Technology for the Illinois Department of Commerce, where he led the agency’s efforts to assist small businesses and support the state’s emerging industries.

His early career was in politics and public administration. Joey serves on the Advisory Board for the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center and is a member of the Chicago Global Shapers Hub, part of the World Economic Forum.

He graduated from Loyola University Chicago with degrees in Political Science and Anthropology and received his Master of Business Administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
